Family Fun in the Sun!

24 Jul

We hope everyone was out enjoying the gorgeous sun this weekend, it was nice to have a bit of cooling cloud in the morning and then lovely hot weather in the afternoon. And it certainly helped us at our event last Saturday.  We were doing the Crest Nicholson family fun day at Longcross in Surrey in partnership with Boo!. It was all outside so having a cool morning really helped us with the set up.

There was so much for the Crest Nicholson families to do on the day; from archery and golf, to a full on fairground with a helter skelter, merry go round and water walking balls. Not to mention a fantastic band playing in the background with family favourite sing along pop tunes.

In terms of food we were offering a veritable feast! There was a BBQ with some of the biggest freshest burgers you’ve ever seen and a whole hog roast. Then there were the food stalls – meatballs and paella, where the paella was cooked fresh in front of you; pizza and pasta stall; and then my favourite the Great British stall. This had huge pork pies, tartlets, individual peppered beef or chicken hot pies, some delicious British cheeses with lovely chutney.

For an afternoon pick me up guests could stop at the tea and coffee station which was conveniently next to the cake and sweet station. The kids could pick out their own pick and mix sweets into a colourful candy bag or have a mini cup cake. For the adults there were so many delicious cakes on offer – red velvet cake, Victoria sponge, coffee and walnut or traditional carrot cake. We didn’t forget the gluten frees either – there was the yummy and decadent chocolate cake or the light and fluffy clementine.

At some point in the afternoon there was the all too familiar jingle of the ice cream truck, pulling right onto the field were everyone crowded round to get a refreshing 99 cone or ice lolly.

Our bar staff provided everyone with beers and wine throughout the day, or if you weren’t interested in having an alcoholic drink then there were sophisticated mocktails.  You could choose from either raspberry, elderflower and thyme or pineapple, ginger and mint, both served with sparkling water.  And of course you can’t forget a British classic of a glass of Pimms on a sunny Saturday afternoon bursting with fruit to soak up the flavours.

All in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable day for both staff and guests a like!
